Report New Astronomical Transients with the Transient Name Server (TNS)
The Transient Name Server (TNS) is a service used by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) to provide transient naming of astronomical phenomena discovered by their members. The TNS is provided as an open web application to the public, and allows astronomers from anywhere to submit their variable star candidates to the International Astronomical Union. It is updated with real-time information about transient objects that are reported. The IAU supports a simple and intuitive interface that enables users to search for specific objects, select the frequency of notifications, and set the length of time they wish to receive notifications. It also offers a number of tools for the users to find new transient objects such as: alerts of newly detected objects, a history of previous discoveries, an interface that allows users to choose the number of objects they wish to receive alerts for.
